This is the first installment of our "Tricks of the trade" page. We will start with the basics of wildlife photography then gradually get more intense.
Lets start with camera gear. I shoot Canon Mark series bodies and L series lenses. Is this the camera and lenses that you need? Absolutley not! But an SLR body is really a good idea. Film or Digital.
If your just starting out in wildlife photography, keep it cheap and simple. Learn about the species you are going to photograph.
It doesnt do you any good to have high dollar camera equipment if you cant find the wildlife your wanting to photograph.
Get out there and start scouting around. Look for tracks, scat and den sites. Worry about taking the photo last.
80% of my job consists of scouting. It is the single most important thing you will do when being a wildlife photographer.
This photo was taken with a 35mm camera body and a cheap $50.00 lens.
Next time we will talk more about scouting and sign.

The Basics
TIP:
When buying a lens, opt for the largest
apeture lens you can afford. (small F-number)
Such as a f-2.8 lens. The larger the aperture the more light it will let in.
